Design Challenge

Establish a type specimen book that effectively presents the variety of a particular type family, showing its versatility, appropriate pairings, and uniqueness. Based on the research of the typeface, use a poet of the same period as the typeface was created to help display the uses of the type family.

Design Narrative

The Proxima Nova Type Speciman Book contains the numerous uses of the type family and features poems from Rae Armantrout to help show off the type family. The consistent black and white theme is meant to increase emphasis on the type family while remaining clean, modern, and bring more attention to the pop of yellow throughout the book. The yellow in particular is a direct pull from one of Armentrout’s poems, Exact, when she references the yellow on the bedspread.

Outcome

The twenty-six page type specimen book displays the various appearances of the Proxima Nova typeface with poems by Rae Armentrout. The use of poems helps present the typeface’s various weights as well as how it appears with different tracking and kerning settings.
